The BIT Team reflects the diverse needs of any successful sustainability program; our leadership team hails from environmental science, policy, business and commercial real estate backgrounds and from around the country.
Jenny Carney is a Vice President at WSP, Sustainability & Energy. She has been working the realm of sustainability in the built environment since 2004, pivoting from her early work as a field ecologist. In 2013, she became a LEED Fellow, GBCI’s most prestigious designation for professionals in the green building industry, in recognition of her critical contributions in developing, administering, and using the LEED-EBOM Rating System.
Sundee Wislow is a national director of energy and sustainability services for JLL. Her focus is to ensure that sustainable real estate solutions are continually improved and advanced – and that clients realize value through sustainability. In addition, she is responsible for JLL partnering with NGOs to help advance sustainable real estate.
Dan Ackerstein is founder and Principal at Ackerstein Sustainability, a consultancy specializing in sustainable operations for clients in California and around the world. Dan has worked in sustainable buildings since 2004, and was one of the key developers of the LEED for Existing Buildings rating systems from 2004 to 2010, as well as serving as a LEED project reviewer and LEED Faculty.

Mr. Flaherty is on the board of directors for the Building Energy Exchange and is a team leader for the ACE Mentor Program. He holds a BA in political science from Kenyon College, and an MBA and MSUP from Columbia University.

Katie Kaluzny has 8 years of experience in project management and volunteer coordination as Associate Director at USGBC-Illinois. Most recently, Katie helped to convene the Chicago Energy Benchmarking Working Group and taking on the lead role in the coalition to recruit and train volunteers that led to over 40 free trainings led by our volunteers.

Ari Kobb leads the Energy and Sustainability consulting practice within the Siemens Building Technologies Division. Prior to his current role he served as Director of Green Building Solutions focusing on solution development and market engagement specifically for LEED and other certification programs. Ari is a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP O&M) and was elected to the Board of Directors of the United States Green Building Council – Illinois Chapter in 2012, serving as Board Chair in 2014.

Tristan Roberts is Executive Editor and Publisher at the trusted green building publisher and consultancy BuildingGreen, Inc. Tristan’s a little obsessive about connecting practitioners with tools so that their work can thrive on an environmental, social, and economic basis. Tristan is a longtime author of in-depth articles on BuildingGreen.com and on LEEDuser.com, has been a key supporter of everyday building professionals improving the sustainability of design, construction, and building operations.
Director, Research & Incubation
Shane Totten is an architect and Director of Research and Incubation at Southface. Located in Atlanta, Southface promotes sustainable homes, workplaces and communities through education, research, advocacy and technical assistance. Shane leads the Southface team focused on identifying new and emerging solutions that bridge the gap between the marketplace and a healthy triple bottom line.
