BIT Building Announces Commitment to Action at Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting
Last week, the BIT Building Program announced a CGI Commitment to Action with its partners, USGBC - Illinois, Seventhwave, and Environmental Defense Fund's Midwest Clean Energy group. BIT Building committed to fully launching our framework for driving the adoption of sustainability best practices in existing buildings, leading to measurable improvements in energy, water, and waste impacts. Over the next two years, BIT Building will promote its set of 16 proven best practices, standardize ongoing performance measurement and improvement goals, provide an online clearinghouse to spread implementation tools and build community among novice practitioners, and celebrate the success of operators by recognizing those who deliver verified improvements of 10, 20, or 30% from baseline conditions.
The BIT Building Program will partner with Chicago-based collaborators to drive early uptake of the framework in that market, with a goal of engaging at least 100 buildings and training 500 practitioners by the end of 2018 to prove out a scalable model that can be adopted by other municipalities and will ultimately directly impact more than 47,000 individuals living, working or learning in enrolled buildings.

About USGBC - Illinois
The U.S. Green Building Council – Illinois Chapter is a nonprofit membership driven organization that advances buildings and communities that are sustainable, prosperous and healthy. They achieve this through education, advocacy, and collaboration.
USGBC-IL will support BIT with promotional, educational programming, and community organizing efforts.
Seventhwave is a non-profit organization with the mission to inspire real and lasting change that advances economic and environmental sustainability. They provide research, consulting, and educational services with a focus on data-driven energy efficiency and sustainability best practices.
Seventhwave will provide the BIT team with energy efficiency technical guidance and assist in the development of a replicable evaluation, measurement and verification (EM&V) protocol.
In Chicago, EDF's Midwest Clean Energy group accelerates energy efficiency programs for some of Chicago’s most influential commercial office buildings, while educating building owners and operators about local energy efficiency resources and incentives available to them. Her work harnesses the power of markets, choice, and incentives to unlock the economic, health, and environmental benefits of energy efficiency.
EDF will support BIT's Commitment by providing outreach and recruitment to commercial real estate owners and place EDF Climate Corps Fellow with building portfolios to support BIT planning and implementation.
